Yes it was Really, Really  Gooin Oooooorf !    9 gliders lined up on Sunday, reports of over 9000',  big distances, magic climbs and mind games were at play leading up to and during the weekends classic conditions.   Good Ol' 9kts was phased out by Dastardly Dave's radio calls of "softening conditions" around Warwick and he landed early after aborting a run to Stanthorpe which would surely have given him one foot on the podium.  " Look at me Laurie " tried it on again with a local Allora farmer ... WWCRAP believes there is more to this outlanding story ..... and Sir Sluksy smashes the 300km barrier with 324.11km to wear the yellow jersey into the last few weeks of WWC8  Distance Trophy.

Can King Carl hit back with a 350 km ?  will Ol' 9kts fall twice to same old mental mind game tactics ? (thanks Dave the $50 is in the mail)   Will there be another mid week conspiracy with only three more weekends to go?   It is going down as the greatest WWC yet.....  oh and not a SLACCA  to be seen  (Self Launching Aircraft Cross Country Award)

Get out there !!!!!  the WWC8 finishes at 20 minutes before last light on 31st August....you still have time

Update on WWC8 Points trophy coming soon....

Warwick Winter Cup 8 (WWC8)

Yahoo and yeehar ! Yes ‘Cuppers the Winter Cup is back in full swing and we are already 1 month into the three month comp. What a cracker last weekend was too. Updates to come very soon when all the weekend results are in....King Karl, CFI Sid, Dictator Dan, Val and Bill, White Ant Express, Look at me Laurie and the Boonah Boys Brian Winner Gilby and JP all had cracking flights so stay tuned for the WWC updates.

Yes the WWCRAP committee is back from sorting out the Video Assisted Referee (VAR) problems with that other world competition so our world is all very nice and in a pleasant state of equilibrium yet again.

For our newbies to WWC some quick rules you need to know...you will receive 5 points for just launching behind WPS and enjoying a sled ride. Bonus points are achieved by uploading your trace to OLC (Online Competition) and tuggies receive the average of WWC points for the day rounded up to the next highest number. (The WWCRAP would have written in the rules “rounded up to the next highest integer” but we are dealing with glider pilots after all ....)

Just a reminder that this year to get your name etched on the WWC Distance trophy and a place in gliding history you will need to launch behind our tug and from Warwick. So all you self launching “competitors” out there uploading outrageous traces to OLC during the WWC and not raising a single drop of sweat knowing you could fire up the old iron thermal whenever you needed it * to get you back home then sorry you will not be eligible this year to win the prestigious WWC Distance trophy. (* Yes the WWCRAP wishes to acknowledge that 9Kts Nigel did try this once in Dictator Dans jet powered JS1 straight after a launch and did indeed produce a little more than just sweat in the cockpit while trying to start the engine and the outlanding minutes later... )

However the WWCRAP will have a special prize/ trophy for you at the annual black tie awards night, which we have named the SLACCA (Self Launching Aircraft Cross Country Award) trophy thingy.

Yours WWCRAP

It is going to be a HUUUUUGE August !  The weather is warming up, the skies have stopped dumping the wet stuff and the breeze has dropped from gale force to a mere zephyr....at least it was this weekend.

Carl (insert new nickname here if he continues with his great form) has streaked ahead with 28 WWC points as we get down to the business end of the comp with David K in his Discus OKN and Scotty J in the White Ant Express close on his heels.

But whats this !!!! David K has a choker hold on the WWC Distance trophy with a massive 77.94km with Andres and the White Ant Express in third !! (yes that is right the White Ant Express is in THIRD place )  ..can this be true with only one month to go?  Holy Nine Knots Batman this is going to be a very very exciting WWC with only 4 more weekends left.   Tell the boss you're crook for the next 4 weeks and get to the club with a chance to write your name into Gliding history.

(WWC Points still need to add Tuggie points and subject to the usual protests)

Well the Easter regatta has come and gone with great flying conditions for all but one day and plenty of "firsts" for some pilots.    We managed to raise $215.00 for the Royal Flying Doctors Service from the great work of our "Seargent at Arms"  Peter Plunket.  Thanks to everyone who donated to the cause.

Some of the firsts were :   Scott Johnson completed his first task in the BG (White Ant Express) in the air ( no outlanding). Young Elliot from Gympie Club went solo, Milan also from Gympie completed his 300km Declared Goal, Laurie and Stew Hamey wrestled the mega M200 around a task together, F/A 18 fly past on 1st April (no joke) and shut both engines down in an attempt to get early Warwick Winter Cup points (well that bit is not entirely true as its not Winter yet), Paul Dale from Boonah made it around his first task too.  And Val found her mop bucket.

The Regatta was well supported from our club with DDSC, Gympie, Boonah and Kingaroy plus  Tom and Kerrie Claffey from NSW and John Orton from Victoria.

Great socialising , fantastic weather, excellent  Tuggies and superb meals from Val all combined for a classic time.   Congrats to all who attended and helped out.

Phil

Following one of the hottest competition days so far in WWC5 Ol' 9Knotter has struck back at the right time to rip the Distance trophy from Dictator Dan's (feeble) grasp with a massive distance of 332.96km!!!!  However it was not before good old 9Kts had an equipment malfunction and released a large volume of warm water ballast insideGWA.  The WWCRAP are investigating to see how many rules this has broken ......if none then it should be !!!

Of course Dictator Dan has bleated loud and long to the WWCRAP about the injustice of it all and having to scratch for 20 minutes just north of Talgai to just stay airborne

Points and Distance to follow soon......

Fresh from solving the Greek debt crisis and brokering a new deal with Iran the WWCRAP is back online and would like to remind all we are nearing the business end of season.....halfway.   Points are valid up to 5th July with more scores to come....and it looks like Dictator Dan has got his Dremel out and started engraving his name once again on both the Warwick Winter Cup and the Handicapped Distance trophy.

Can old 9 knot Nigel pull one out of the WWC bag again?   Will Erich the Red maximize his handicap advantage in the mighty Libelle or the gutsy PW6? Can $lut$ky push his almost brand new, neat as a pin LS8 to its full potential and grab the coveted trophy by its undercarriage and waltz into WWC glory???

C'mon we are half way there and the flying is about to get very serious indeed.

....that Sepp Blatter of FIFA fame has applied for an executive position on the WWCRAP despite - allegedly - having all the personal traits that would be well suited to a direct appointment to the committee.   The WWCRAP would like to thank FIFA for providing an endless source of material for this years WWCRAP theme.  (psst Sepp we will give you a call)

Soooo the long weekend has come and gone with an exceptional start to the WWC5 and yes it is hard to believe that it is the Warwick Winter Cup's Fifth year and it is just incredible how it has grown to this level of world sporting recognition in such a short time.  Ah yes and already the WWCRAP has received its first protest for the year.   Dictator Dan has claimed that his Data Logger had been tampered with and his trace erased which could have seen him claim according to Dan a 450km + distance in an early grab for the distance trophy for WWC5.   It has been alleged that some one close to Dan, possibly sharing the same hangar, someone who had access to all loggers and all knowledge of all things electronic may have had a hand in this.  The WWCRAP is currently investigating.....

So the WWC5 distance valid claim so far ....

The off season has gone and and the new season is just about going orrrfffff.   Those hot wasted flying days are now behind us finally, so it is time to walk the talk and get some air !!!!

So ...  Will ol' Nine Knots put back to back distance wins?  Will Val continue to her strangle hold on the Cup in 2015?  Will Condor Carl live up to his new nickname and peak at the right end of the season? Will the White Ant Express prove to be just another a tasty treat this year ?  Will Dictator Dan be forced to rely on a lowly JS1 to help his score?  How about Pistol Pete and Young Gun Stewart to come out of retirement and share the super slick GOW Cirrus to recapture the glory days?   Will  Bearhawk Brad dare to be brave and feather the prop on the POO to gain some extra points?  Or is Thistle Man Dan about to emerge as a real contender and not a pretender this year?  And what about Erich the Red and No Thermals Noel Libelle - will it get to feel some ice on its wings this year?

We can only wait and see......

One thing for sure it is time for world to stand up, arrest a few officials, apply a few economic sanctions,  stop a few boats and take notice once again -       Soooooo turn on your spam filters, block your emails, strengthen your firewalls.....the WWCRAP is back for 2015 and it's game on.

Yours as always

Geeeez Ol' Nine Knot Nigel has really done it !!!!!  not only has he won this years Warwick Winter Cup Distance trophy with a staggering 463.05km flight in the club's Discus GWA but he has smashed the previous WWC World Record by 27.44km with just 1hr and 25mins of useable WWC daylight still up his sleeve.  Yep it was the last day of Winter !  He may have just lifted himself into 2nd place on the Warwick Winter Cup as well.* subject to verification and bleating.

Wriiten off as yesterdays hero ol' Nine Knotter has silenced his critics with this impressive display of skill, cunning and pure brillance on the very last possible day.   Nine Knotts had the day under control from launch to landing and left his competitors wallowing in his vortex only to dream what could have been theirs.  Dictator Dan's drool was still wet on the trophy from the Awards Night the night before but good ol' Nine Knotter has wiped it clean and in doing so has written himself into the record books and WWC imortality.

The WWCRAP previously blogged it doesn't get much better than this - well it just did.
